The Orrick R-XI School District is accepting applications for the position of Elementary Special Education teacher (Mild/Moderate: Cross Categorical) for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year. Applicants should have a thorough knowledge of the special education process, IEP development and the implementation and compliance with state and federal regulations and IDEA, and should be appropriately certified. The position is open until filled. Job Description: Teacher

 

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree and Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Competent knowledge of subject matter and instructional strategies
  • Perform basic computer functions and utilize more advanced instructional technology such as tablets or interactive whiteboards.

Position Summary:

Provides direct instruction to students and maintains an environment conducive to learning.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain the confidentiality of schools, teachers, and classrooms.
  • Prepare and execute appropriate daily lessons covering identified course descriptions, curriculum standards, and instructional objectives.
  • Maintain classroom control/discipline in accordance with school philosophy and procedures
  • Participate in grade level, building, and district committees and meetings.
  • Implement special educational plans such as 504s, IEPs, and IHPs.
  • Develop and maintain IEP's and necessary data.
  • Follow all stated, federal and IDEA regulations and compliance.
  • Provide specialized instruction and coordination of special education services for individual students with disabilities.
  • Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination and harassment as directed by Board policy.
  • Prepare lesson plans for use by substitute teachers.
  • Promote a positive image of the district within the community.
  • Maintain current knowledge in educational trends, teaching/learning theory and practice.
  • Participate in district projects, programs, and activities as needed.
  • Maintain accurate student records including attendance, grades, and discipline.
  • Complete and submit forms and required reports in a timely manner.
  • Comply with all school policies.
  • Evaluate student performance in a timely and fair manner.
  • Identify needs and abilities of individual students and adapt instructional methods accordingly.
  • Establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with students, parents, and co-workers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Schedule and conduct parent-teacher conferences.
  • Be available for students, parents, and other conferences before classes are in session in the morning and after classes have officially closed in the afternoon.

Evaluated by:
Building Principal in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy and the District’s model of evaluation.

Terms of Employment:
Salary and school year calendar to be established by the Board of Education. Teachers are to report for duty by 7:20 AM and remain on duty until 3:45 PM. Benefits and leave time as defined in Board Policy. Must be legally permitted to work in the United States and have passed all background checks conducted by the District.

Working Environment:
Work is typically performed in and around a student learning environment and as such may be exposed to childhood diseases. May be required to balance and crouch, crawl, bend, or kneel. May be required to stand for prolonged periods. Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions may occur. Workplace is usually moderately quiet but can be noisy at times. May experience a multitude of demands and changing priorities with frequent interruptions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk or hear.
