The Orrick School District is seeking qualified applicants for a cook position for the 24-25 school year. This is anticipated to be a part-time position 20-25 hours per week, but may be full-time (30 hours per week), depending on qualifications, duties, and responsibilities.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to adhere to safety practices and operate standard equipment found in a commercial kitchen. 
  • Ability to perform basic math, including calculations including fractions, percents, and/or ratios.
  • Understanding of written procedures, ability to write routine documents, and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.
  • Basic computer skills, including, but not limited to basic word processing, email, and web-based programs.
  • Communication skills with diverse groups, working as part of a team, and working with detailed information/data.

Position Summary: Responsible for the preparation, service, and sale of food products. Works collaboratively with other food service staff to provide quality breakfast and lunch meals to students and adults within state and federal guidelines.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Maintain the confidentiality of schools, teachers, students, and classrooms.
  2. Promote a positive image of the district within the community.
  3. Comply with all school policies.
  4. Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators.
  5. Assist in the preparation and serving of meals.
  6. Encourage wise selection of food choices by students.
  7. Stay informed of current state and federal regulations pertaining to food preparation and dietary guidelines.
  8. Maintain proper food handling practices in accordance with health regulations.
  9. Provide a clean and healthy environment.
  10. Attend appropriate training sessions.
  11. Practice personal hygiene standards to prevent food contamination in accordance with health regulations.
  12. Promote a positive image of the nutrition program.
  13. Utilize government donated commodities in a resourceful manner to help control overall cost of food service program.

Consults with:

  • Superintendent
  • Building Principals
  • Head Cook

Evaluated by:
Superintendent, in conjunction with Head Cook in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy and the District’s model of evaluation.

Terms of Employment:
Hourly wage for the period of designated school year with additional days as arranged with the Head Cook and approved by the Superintendent. Hourly wage, benefits and leave time as defined in Board Policy. Must be a U.S. citizen and have passed all background checks conducted by the District.
Working Environment:  Work is typically performed in and around a student learning environment and as such may be exposed to childhood diseases.  This is a physically demanding position. The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: lifting heavy objects, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.  Repetitive chopping with knives requires a good grip with arm and hand endurance. Workplace is usually moderately quiet but can be noisy at times. Equipment used on the job may be loud and cleaning products that can be very harmful to one’s health if not properly utilized are used on a daily basis. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk or hear.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential responsibilities and functions of the job.
